The Golden Gate is Americana (perhaps) second only to Lady Liberty. Want to see her? Go to the New York Collection!
Dimension: 8,980 feet from San Francisco to Sausalito.
Construction period: 4 years, starting in 1933.
The final graceful suspension design was conceived and championed by New York’s Manhattan Bridge designer Leon Moisseiff, and that famous orange color? It was originally used as a sealant for the bridge and was used against the better judgment of the US Navy, who wanted it to be painted with black and yellow stripes to ensure visibility by passing ships.
Maybe it's because we're used to it but I doubt any of us would want it any other color.
